Wallets

A Wallet is a digital account used to hold funds within the Clenergy EV platform.

These features support customers to configure the following:

  • Allow Company owners to pay for staff charging (Company Payment Wallets)
  • Allow Company owners to reimburse staff charging for home use (Reimbursement Wallets)

This is possible by the configuration of one or more wallets.

What is a Wallet?

Wallets are created on an Owner, and act as a source of funds for drivers. Each wallet has a specific currency and a type.

Wallet Types

A wallet type can be one of:

Invoice Wallet

  • This wallet will track usage over the month and invoice the owner for payment at the end of it
  • No payments will be made from the wallet until an invoice is settled

Top-Up Wallet

  • This wallet must be topped-up by the owner
  • The credit can be spent immediately

Use Cases

The main use cases for these wallets dictate which wallet type should be used:

Fleet Use

This is where an owner would choose to offer a payment method for their staff when charging. When configured, this wallet becomes a selectable source of funds in the app, meaning drivers do not need to claim back.

A 'Top-Up' type wallet should be used for this scenario.

This means the owner will need to top-up the wallet to enable their fleet members to use it. Credit is needed ahead of time as the funds are immediately made available to the chargepoint owner, and Clenergy EV do not take liability for any funds owed.

Home Reimbursement

This is where a company may choose to cover some or all of the cost of charging vehicles on a home charger. The type of wallet used here dictates the behaviour of the system:

Top-Up Wallet for Home Reimbursement:

  • The home user is immediately reimbursed at the configured rate at the end of each charge

Invoice Wallet for Home Reimbursement:

  • The home user must wait for the company to settle the invoice before reimbursement is made

Any reimbursements will be made directly to the driver's credit balance - a tightly coupled feature of 'Withdrawals' will allow the user to request this money to their bank account.

Setting Up Wallets

The key area of the platform to see change is: When selecting an 'Owner' there is a new 'Wallets' tab. This is where wallets can be created and managed.

Setup Process

  1. Navigate to an Owner's details page
  2. Click the Wallets tab
  3. Click the "Add Wallet" button to get started.
  4. Fill in the form and hit "Create Wallet".
  5. You will then see the newly created wallet in the list under Wallets in the Owner screen

Note: You can repeat this process to create both types. Only one wallet is needed for reimbursement, but for testing purposes it's worth creating both types.

Top Up Wallet Configuration

In order to top up the Top Up wallet, you must register a card:

  1. View the Top Up wallet
  2. Click the "Add payment method" button
  3. Complete the Add Card screen from Stripe
  4. Once a card has been successfully added, you can top up funds
  5. If top up is successful, the balance will update automatically with the newly added funds

Invoice Wallet Configuration

There is no further action needed for the Invoice wallet other than the initial setup detailed above. However, note that the "top up" screen when you view the Invoice wallet is different from the Top Up wallet type, as it cannot accept direct funding.
