A list of commonly used terms and acronyms within EV Charging industry.

Admin |
The controlling unit of specific entities. Will have read and write access to all entities below them |
Admin Portal |
The Clenergy EV Portal used by charge point owners and can be found at www.admin.clenergy.online |
Affiliate code |
This is a code that allows a driver to use private charging stations or private tariffs on a specific charging group. It is inputted on the “affiliate” section of the EV Driver app |

Back Office |
The portion of the platform that the Super admins use to operate the platform. This also includes the portion of the platform that charge points connect to. |
C |
|
Charge Digital Record (CDR) |
is the full data record of a completed charging session. It is created once a charging session ends and contains all the relevant details about that session. |

Charge Point Management System (CPMS) |
A charge point management system is the software that connects each part of the charging eco-system, allowing visibility of all charging stations in one platform. Is often used interchangeably with “back-office” or “platform” |
Charge point Certification |
The process by which new make/models of chargers are confirmed to work with the back office. All makes/models require this before use on the platform. |
Charge point/Charger |
The physical charge point device which may have one or more connectors. Can also be referred to as ‘charging station’ |
Charging Station |

Charge Point IDentifier (or CPID) |
The unique identifier coupled with each charge point. This is typically in the form of a six digit number with leading 0s. e.g 000123. This is typically visible on the charge point itself. Also known using the deprecated terms ‘Barcode’ or ‘Charger ID’ |
Chargergroup |
A logical collection of charge points. A Charger can only be in one charger group at once. |
Contactless Terminals |
Unattended payment terminals that accept debit/credit card payments directly from the driver at the charge point. These can be manufactured by providers such as Payter, CPI, Worldline, or Nayax. |
CPO |
'Charge Point Operator' - an entity that typically manages a network of charge points. Every ‘whitelabel’ is a Charge Point Operator, but not every CPO is a whitelabel. |
Credit |
Drivers on the system can add to their account balance by topping-up. This is referred to as their available credit. |

Direct Income |
Income collected directly by Clenergy, either through the Clenergy App or Contactless Terminals. Includes PAYG (pay-as-you-go), Credit, and Contactless. Figures include VAT. Roaming/OCPI income is excluded. |
Driver |
A user that wishes to charge their car. Typically interacts with the app. |
Driver App |
The driver portion of the platform that can be access using Android (for android app), ios (for apple products) or webapp |
E |

E-Mobility Service provider (EMSP) |
An e-Mobility Service Provider offers an EV charging service to EV drivers. An EMSP creates value for its customers (EV drivers) by providing access to a network of charging points around a geographical area. |
Engineer |
Have sufficient privileges to charger on charge points for free (as a testing tool only) and configuration of the charge point. Also Know as Installer. |
EVSE |
Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment. Concept similar to chargers and connectors, though it concerns an end-to-end pipeline of power from the grid/on-prem to the vehicle. May be synonymous with a connector, depending on the context. |
E-Roaming |
The ability to charge at different charging networks, from one central account. Ideally from the Clenergy EV platform. |

Free vend |
Refers to vending electricity from a charge point at no cost. |
G |

Guest user |
A subset of drivers that do not register their account and instead charge using the app/webapp via the ‘checkout as guest’ functionality. |
H |

Host |
A host exists underneath an Owner and can be given specific access to different chargergroups. |
Hub |
Some charge points are in a configuration where multiple physical units appear as one charge point with many sockets. A ‘Hub’ is the software solution that makes them appear in the platform as multiple charge points. |
Holding area |
Refers to the self onboarding system: Owners/CPOs that register through an invite link will be restricted to this area on the admin site until their onboarding is completed. |
Home Reimbursement |
The process of reimbursing an EV Driver for the power used from their own home to power a company vehicle. |

ISO 15118 |
The official standard for the “Plug and Charge” technology. This is the ability to connect your vehicle to a charging station and automatically start charging your vehicle, with the vehicle handshake automatically connecting to a user's account/credit to handle the financial transaction. |
Installer |
An electrical contractor that is installing and/or commissioning charge point/s on behalf of a 'client' (an 'Owner' to Clenergy). This can be a company or an individual. This will incorporate Company name, address, OZEV number, and area covered. |
Install Job |
An act of an Installer (and one or more Engineers) to install one or more charge points for an Owner. This can be in hubspot. |

Load Management System (LMS) |
The way in which power is distributed across a group of charging stations, in one location. Can be provided by a local piece of hardware, or via a cloud system. Can be Static, Dynamic or Double Dynamic. |

Magic Link |
A web url that allows a "one click" registration as an Owner or CPO. The link contains pre-filled form data to speed up the user registration process and leads to the 'holding area' after successful registration. Also referred to as 'invite link'. |

Network |
Multiple charging stations under one company’s or organisation’s jurisdiction. Can mean they are all available in one app, are under one brand or owned by one company. The “network” tab on the Clenergy EV platform shows all charging stations running our software. |
Net Payment to You |
The final amount transferred to you after transaction fees and VAT are deducted. |
O |

OCPP |
Stands of Open Charge Point Protocol: This is the protocol that chargers communicate with the backoffice on. There are multiple versions of OCPP, the most common that we use is 1.6JSON which uses a technology called ‘websockets’ to transmit messages. |
OCPI |
OCPI stands for Open Charge Point Interface. OCPI is a protocol that allows for automated roaming between various EV charging networks. |
Onboarding |
The process in which a charging stations is added to the Clenergy EV back office |
Owner |
The owner of one more charge points that need CPMS services.This can be an individual or a company. Typically, these are the people who earn income on the chargers and have full access to the charge point features. The Owner will exist underneath a CPO. The owner will not have have custom theming on any software. |

PAYG (Pay-As-You-Go) |
One-off charging payments made by drivers through the Clenergy App without a subscription. |
Payter |
A device that can be installed and connected to chargers to support contactless charging without an app. Payter is the company that provides these units - the hardware is often referred to as the “payter” or Payter terminal/hardware. |
Platform |
The full Clenergy software ecosystem, involving driver and engineer apps, the backoffice and related services. |
Q |

QRCode |
A visual way of representing information - a bit like a 2D barcode. We use phone cameras to scan these on stickers to navigate to the appropriate chargers. |

RFID Card |
A credit card sized identification card based on the Mifare classic protocol. These cards are attached to system users and can be used to identify each user for various actions at a charger, such as starting and stopping charges. |
S |

SAAS |
The Clenergy Platform is a Software as a Service. This means that customers essentially pay to rent the software we build. |
Signage |
The signs visible near installed charge points that give users instructions on how to charge. |
Site |
A physical location that includes one or more groups of charge points. A Site exists within an Owner. This includes GPS locations, site details like name and amenities. |
Socket |
The connection that allows a cable to be plugged into a car to deliver power. |
Socket Fee |
A monthly or annual fee that is charged to each CPO based upon the number of sockets they are using. This can be flat (e.g 10p) or percentage (e.g 10%) or both (10p+10%) |
Staff |
Like Admin, but with read only access |
Sticker |
Each charger usually has a sticker on it outlining the charge point Identifier as text and also in the form of the QRCode. This also typically shows support contact details. |
Super Admin |
Typically only Clenergy staff - these users have very high permissions. These users have permission to access any resources in any whitelabels whatsoever - they are not restricted to any given whitelabel or dashboard. |
Support User |
Users with support permissions are allowed to see support areas within the backoffice and create tickets to support drivers. |

Tariff |
Describes the price to be paid when a user in usergroup A charges on charger in charger group B. All users exist in some specific pseudo Usergroups like ‘Public’ |
Telematics |
A physical device that plugs into a vehicle and tracks its journey and live data. It uploads information to a platform for an administrator to manage said vehicle. |
Tickets |
Created by support users in response to support requests. Will contain relevant information to the issue. |
Third Party Income |
Income from drivers using third-party apps or roaming networks such as Octopus Electroverse, Paua, Greenflux DNV, Zap-map, and Allstar. Figures include VAT. |
Transaction |
The transfer of power from a charge point to a vehicle with accompanying payment information. |
Transaction Fee |
The fee that will be charged when processing a payment taken during a transaction. This can be flat (e.g 10p) or percentage (e.g 10%) or both (10p+10%) and includes VAT. |

Usergroup |
A logical group of users. Also contains permissions specific to that group of users. A user can be in multiple user groups at once. Users gain permissions from all of the groups that they are in. Users cannot have permissions attached to them without a Usergroup. |

Vehicle to Grid (V2G) Vehicle to Home (V2H) Vehicle to Everything (V2X) |
The concept of a vehicle battery providing power to either a home, the electricity grid or anything in between. Relies on technology compatible on a car and charger level. Currently in development by several companies. |
W |

Wallet |
Driver: The area in the Clenergy driver app where fund are held. Owner: The area in the Admin Portal where charge point owners can use to connect to either home drivers for reimbursement or groups of users/vehicles for roaming. |
Web App |
A website that allows drivers to manage their Clenergy EV account without downloading a local app via the App or Android Stores. Mimics App and Android store in each instance. It can be found at clenergy.online |
Whitelabel |
an entity that has its own theming for the CPO services rather than the default Clenergy ones. This means their own logos, colour schemes, driver apps and admin app. |
